Google Fiber–The Future Internet is Here.

, July 27, 2012

Remember the time when we would connect to the internet by dial-up? Remember how painfully slow it is to download songs? It would take an entire day to download 100 songs. Then came broadband internet. The average broadband speed in the country now would let you download 100 songs in about 11 minutes.

Guess what’s about to come soon. 1GB connection speed from Google Fiber— that’s connection speed 100 times faster than today’s average broadband. Do you know how awesome that is? That could download the same 100 songs that would take you the whole day on dial-up, or 11 minutes in today’s average broadband, in just 3 seconds.  That could download an entire HD movie in 7 seconds.

This made me giddy with excitement…until I saw the price tag.

Gigabit + TV is $120/mo
$300 waived construction fee

Gigabit Internet is $70/mo
$300 waived construction fee

Google will offer free internet ($0/mo) but you have to pay $300 construction fee (one time or $25/mo for 12 mo). Speed will be like that of the average broadband speed today (Up to 5Mbps download, 1Mbps upload speed).

If this excites you as much as it excites me, pre-register now at https://fiber.google.com/how/

This is available only in Kansas at the moment, but considering how much people is talking about it now, it should come to your city pretty soon.
